1. Reflection of light at curved surfaces

Light does not only reflect from flat mirrors — it also reflects from curved mirrors, which can change the direction and concentration of light. In this lesson, we learn about concave mirrors and convex mirrors, and how they form different types of images. A concave mirror can focus light and produce bright, clear images, which is why it is used in vehicle headlights, torches, and solar cookers. On the other hand, a convex mirror spreads light and helps us see a wider area, making it useful as a rear-view mirror in vehicles.

By understanding how light rays reflect from curved surfaces, we can predict where an image will form, whether it will be real or virtual, and whether it will appear bigger or smaller. These ideas are not just for exams—they are used in many real-life technologies such as telescopes, medical instruments, and safety mirrors on roads. Learning this topic helps students see how simple laws of light create powerful tools that we use every day.
